Yoga Works, located in Santa Monica for 20 years, is a
sustainability leader in the yoga world. They offer employees, including
yoga instructors, a range of benefits such as life insurance, health and
401K options. They go the extra green mile by requesting their current
office supply company,
Staples, to carry permanent lines of biodegradable cleaners. This made
the products available to anycommercial customer. They offset their
carbon emissions by supporting Prana’s Natural Power Initiative. They
helped revitalize the north end of Main Street by opening the studio and
renovating an old building into functioning office space.
Sustainable Quality Award, 2003
ZJ Boardinghouse sells surf, snow and skate equipment. In its product lines, ZJ features environmentally-friendly organic fibers and non-toxic materials. Environmental initiatives also include energy-saving retrofits and assertive eco-friendly procurement policies. In support of the local economy, 50% of ZJ’s staff is local and they offer on-line shopping to expand their customer base. ZJ employees enjoy matching IRA plans and a profit-based bonus program.
